Event Overview
The OpenAgents PR Hackathon is a global online open-source challenge exclusively hosted by the OpenAgents project. Running for 10 days (Pacific Time - PT), it invites developers worldwide to participate as individuals, showcasing their technical skills by building innovative Agent Networks and injecting new vitality into the OpenAgents ecosystem.
As an open-source framework dedicated to connecting AI agents at scale, OpenAgents aims to drive the development of practical, scalable, and collaborative Agent Networks through this hackathon.
Participants are required to contribute directly to the OpenAgents open-source repository via mergeable Pull Requests (PRs), collectively enriching the diversity and functional coverage of Agent Networks in the ecosystem.
You can:
- Build either a centralized or decentralized Agent Network (choose one)
- Develop network solutions for specific real-world scenarios (e.g., research collaboration, information exchange, professional communities, etc.)
- Optimize network performance, security, or usability based on OpenAgents' core architecture
- All submissions must be original, mergeable, and compliant with OpenAgents' technical specifications
ποΈ Timeline
(All times are Pacific Time - PT)
π° Prizes & Participation Terms
πΉ Prizes (USD)
The hackathon features a total prize pool of $500, rewarding top-performing individual contributors:
- 1st Place: $200
- 2nd Place: $150
- 3rd Place: $100
- Honorable Mentions (2): $25 each (recognizing innovation, technical expertise, or practical value)
πΉ Participation Rules
- Eligibility: Individual participation only (teams are not allowed). Each participant may submit exactly one PR (corresponding to one Agent Network).
- PR Submission Requirements: All submissions must be made via PR to the OpenAgents GitHub repository (https://github.com/openagents-org/openagents) and include three core components:
Complete and runnable code for the Agent Network (compatible with OpenAgents v0.5.1 and above).
- Network Architecture (centralized/decentralized, transport protocol, mods used).
- Setup Guide (prerequisites, installation steps, launch commands).
- Use Case Description (target scenario, problem solved, agent collaboration logic).
- Core Features and Technical Highlights.
- Demonstrates the network deployment process (step-by-step setup operations).
- Showcases core functionalities (agent discovery, communication, coordination).
- Explains real-world value and scenario implementation methods.
- Is publicly accessible (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo) with a link included in the PR.
- PR Review: All PRs will be reviewed by the OpenAgents core team after submission. Only merged PRs that pass review are eligible for prize consideration (unmerged PRs will not be evaluated).
πΉ Single Track: Agent Network Development
All participants will compete in a single track focused on building high-quality Agent Networks. Submissions will be scored based on four core criteria (total 100 points):
- Functionality (30 points): The network runs stably, core features (discovery, communication, coordination) match the description, and the demo video is clear and verifiable.
- Practical Value (25 points): The use case is realistic, solves actual problems, and aligns with OpenAgents ecosystem needs (e.g., collaborative research, customer service automation, knowledge sharing platforms, etc.).
- Technical Quality (25 points): The code is clean and standardized, documentation is thorough, performance is optimized, and it complies with OpenAgents' modular architecture design.
- Innovation (20 points): Unique network design ideas, novel mod combinations, or innovative solutions for scalability/security.
πΉ Participation Process
